What is a hydraulic chuck?

A chuck is a tool for clamping drill bits used in metal cutting works in machining machinery, milling machines, lathes, etc.

Why does grip force decrease?

There are a number of reasons why grip force decrease, such as:

  • Aged degradation
  • Oil leakage from inside
  • Damage on chuck part
  • Dust infiltration

Why control the clamping force of the chuck?

The clamping force of the chuck affects the machining accuracy. If the clamping chuck is not tight, loose will reduce the accuracy during machining, causing errors. In the worst-case scenario, the cutter or drill bit that is not securely held can fall off and flying out, causing injury to your workers. But if the clamping force of the chuck is too large, it may lead to the breakage of the tool and drill bit during the machining process. That’s why we need to control the clamping force of the chuck to ensure they work best.

Using a mandrel causes inaccurate testing

Most users do not manage the clamping force of the chuck. Some people test the clamping force of the chuck by installing a mandrel and applying torque until the mandrel starts slipping. However, there is a risk of damage to the chuck, causing it not to hold the tool in the correct direction of the original design. The direction of the test force is also different from the original design, resulting in inaccurate testing.

That's why Grip Master is a great tool for clamping force testing. Simply insert the sensor probe into tool holders of the chuck, and the Grip Master will check the clamping force of the chuck, with force applied to right direction without damaging or deflecting any of the chuck components.

The GRIP MASTER tool clamp meter can measure the clamping force of hydraulic chucks, helping to support the daily maintenance of machine tools.

The console of GRIP MASTER can real-time display measured value and record data. Data recorded can be easily exported to PC.

Grip Master's probe sensor comes in 11 different diameters (φ4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25 and 32 mm)

A dedicated carrying case is included with the Grip Master product.
