THREE FORCE MEASUREMENT SOLUTIONS FOR THE METALWORKING INDUSTRY

Spindle Clamping Force Management with UNICLAMP

In precision machining, clamping force has a direct impact on product quality, tool life, and machine stability. However, many factories still lack a reliable quantitative method for measuring and controlling clamping force. This can lead to machining inaccuracies, vibration, and even tool drop incidents during operation.

To address these challenges, Temas introduces the UNICLAMP spindle clamping force tester. This device enables safe and accurate inspection of spindle clamping force in machining centers. Since the disc springs inside the spindle have a limited service life, wear over time can directly affect machining accuracy.

With UNICLAMP, operators can measure clamping force during both tool clamping and unclamping, making it easier to detect early signs of spring deterioration. The compact, wireless design allows measurements to be performed safely from outside the machine. Thanks to wireless communication and its single-operator setup, each spindle can be inspected in as little as five minutes, significantly reducing routine maintenance time.

Tool Holder Inspection with GRIP MASTER

During machining operations, the clamping force of the tool holder plays a critical role in maintaining machining accuracy. Over time, hydraulic chucks can lose holding power due to hydraulic oil leakage or mechanical wear, potentially resulting in reduced machining precision or even tool slippage.

Grip Master distributed by Temas, is designed to measure tool holder clamping force quickly and accurately. The sensor probe is inserted in the same way as a cutting tool, allowing the device to measure clamping force in the intended direction without damaging or misaligning the chuck.

The system includes 11 probe sizes ranging from φ4 mm to φ32 mm, making it compatible with most common hydraulic chucks. Calibration data for each probe is stored directly in memory, eliminating the need for recalibration whenever probes are changed. Measurement results are displayed instantly on the screen and can also be stored or exported to a computer for periodic monitoring and analysis.

Lathe Chuck Maintenance with UNICHUCK

For lathe applications, Temas offers the UNICHUCK system, specifically designed to measure clamping force on workpieces during machining. One of UNICHUCK’s key advantages is its ability to measure clamping force even while the chuck is rotating, accurately simulating real operating conditions.

This feature allows engineers to optimize clamping force settings for different workpieces, especially thin-wall components. Excessive clamping force can deform thin workpieces, while insufficient force may cause slipping during machining. UNICHUCK measures clamping force based on spindle rotation speed during operation and helps operators adjust hydraulic pressure accordingly.

The system supports 2-jaw chucks, 3-jaw chucks, and even custom chuck configurations upon request. Like the other solutions, UNICHUCK is designed for fast and safe operation through wireless connectivity, with each inspection taking only around five minutes.

Optimizing clamping force not only improves machining accuracy, but also helps extend equipment life and reduce operational risks. With Unipulse’s dedicated force measurement solutions, manufacturers can standardize and control their processes using real operational data rather than relying solely on operator experience.
