LOAD CELLS DESIGNED FOR VACUUM ENVIRONMENTS

As the exclusive distributor of Unipulse products in Vietnam, Temas provides a full range of load cells designed to meet demanding measurement requirements in harsh environments. In this article, we introduce several Unipulse load cell models capable of operating in vacuum conditions while withstanding a wide temperature range from –20°C to +100°C.

In particular, Temas also offers siloxane-free sensors upon request for semiconductor manufacturing applications.

These sensors have already been successfully implemented in highly demanding processes, including high-precision weighing in semiconductor production, material durability testing inside vacuum chambers, and even aerospace equipment development.

UIS Double-Ended Helical Load Cell

The Unipulse UIS is commonly used in both high- and low-temperature environments. This helical-type load cell features threaded ends on both sides, making installation easy while minimizing the effects of torque and lateral forces.

Available in capacities of 1 kN, 2 kN, and 5 kN (expandable up to 10 kN, 20 kN, and 50 kN), the sensor can measure both tension and compression forces. Its compact body length of just 40–92 mm also provides excellent installation flexibility.

Because it is highly resistant to side-force interference, the UIS is ideal for applications such as:

  • Force measurement at robotic arm joints, eliminating errors caused by torque when the arm tilts.
  • Press-fit force measurement on motor rotor shafts while minimizing the effects of surrounding magnetic fields.
  • Material durability testing for metals in extreme high- and low-temperature environments.

USM Ultra-Compact Tension/Compression Load Cell

The Unipulse USM is an ultra-compact load cell measuring only 11 × 14 × 4 mm. With measurement ranges from 1 N to 50 N and overload resistance up to 500% of rated capacity, the USM delivers exceptional durability and is highly resistant to damage from excessive loads.

This model is particularly suitable for measuring tensile force in ultra-thin wires or miniature cylinders such as syringes, while also being effective for connector fitting inspections. Typical applications include:

  • Tension measurement of fine cables and strings in precision equipment.
  • Durability testing of electrical or mechanical connector joints.
  • Strength testing of plastic materials or easily deformable materials under low loads.

URM Ultra-Compact High-Accuracy Tension/Compression Load Cell

The Unipulse URM is a highly compact S-type load cell measuring only 15 × 20 × 7 mm while still delivering outstanding accuracy, with linearity, hysteresis, and repeatability of approximately 0.03%)

The URM is available in capacities of 50 N, 100 N, 200 N, and 500 N, and supports both tension and compression measurement. Its design makes it ideal for high-precision applications such as:

  • Tension measurement during wire winding processes in winding machines
  • Press-fit force measurement in electro-mechanical connector crimping applications

The URM’s specifications demonstrate excellent stability and precision, making it suitable for vacuum environments and harsh temperature conditions. Its design can also be customized for enhanced high- and low-temperature resistance.

UNCSR Compact Ultra-Thin Load Cell

The UNCSR is a compact vacuum-compatible load cell featuring an ultra-thin design. With a diameter of only 12 mm and a height of just 4 mm, it can measure force even within extremely narrow spaces.

The UNCSR is available in 5 N, 10 N, 20 N, and 50 N capacities, with optional base-mounted versions for easier installation. Its slim and compact design makes it ideal for applications such as:

  • Force measurement in small press machines or machine tools with limited sensor installation space.
  • Force measurement in confined spaces, such as between tightly assembled automation components.

USH Compact Compression Load Cell for High Loads

The USH series is a compact compression load cell capable of handling extremely high loads despite its small size. The series includes a 26 mm diameter version rated for 20 kN (approximately 2 tons) and a 40 mm diameter version rated for 50 kN (approximately 5 tons).

Performance specifications are also excellent, with linearity of 0.2% and repeatability of 0.1%. Thanks to its high load capacity, the USH is often installed in restricted spaces and is recommended as a replacement for older load cells used in press machines and similar production equipment. Key advantages include:

  • Popular 10 kN and 20 kN models suitable for applications requiring large compression forces.
  • A robust yet lightweight design that allows easy installation in fitted mounting holes without interfering with surrounding machinery.

UCC Compact High-Capacity Compression Load Cell

The Unipulse UCC (HL) is a compact compression load cell capable of measuring loads up to 20 kN. With a diameter of 21 mm and a height of only 10 mm, combined with an extended operating temperature range of −40°C to +150°C in the HL version, the UCC(HL) performs reliably in harsh environments. Examples of applications include:

  • Compression force measurement in vacuum and high-temperature environments, such as pressure control inside furnaces or thermal testing chambers.
  • Installation in limited spaces without affecting machine structure or operation.

SCB High-Rigidity, High-Response Load Cell

The SCB load cell stands out for its exceptional rigidity and rapid response performance. Thanks to its extremely high stiffness, the SCB is often described as being “almost impossible to break". It also offers overload protection up to 500% of rated capacity, ensuring long-term durability and stable operation.

Because of its high rigidity and high natural response frequency — up to 40 kHz in lower-capacity models — the SCB is especially suitable for dynamic force measurement applications. Typical uses include dynamic power measurement for motors and grinding machines, as well as impact testing where rapidly changing forces must be accurately captured.

In addition, the SCB uses a dedicated flexible FA cable designed for vacuum environments, enabling convenient installation in vacuum measurement systems. With extensive hands-on experience across industries such as electronics, semiconductors, precision engineering, and factory automation, Temas not only supplies equipment but also works closely with customers to optimize force measurement solutions for each specific application.

Temas is also an authorized distributor of Unipulse load cells and force indicators in Vietnam.
